The Czech Post secured postal licence for 2018 - 2022

Following a surprise rejection in November, the Czech national regulator eventually awarded to the Czech Post with their postal licence on 12 December 2017.

“I am happy we persisted in the struggle and finally obtained the licence. We will thus maintain a network of 3,200 post offices and deliver according to given parameters in the coming years,” Martin Elkán, the post´s CEO said. The legislative procedure to select the USO provider for the period 2018 - 2022 began in July last year and the Czech Post was the only applicant. However, Czech Telecommunication Office, the national regulation authority, turned down the application, citing as a formal reason that the post is not adhering to the cost-orientation pricing principle. Česká pošta´s prices were too low, according to the regulator.
