Jersey Post shortlisted for two industry awards

Jersey Post has been shortlisted for two awards at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2018 – an acclaimed industry event.

The company has been recognised for the development of an automated parcel management solution and shortlisted in the Customer Service and Support and Delivery Innovation categories at the 2018 finals.

The parcel management solution that was implemented by Jersey Post included the installation of an automated parcel sorting machine which links to handheld terminals and tracking software used by postal workers on their delivery rounds. This combination of equipment and software has helped the organisation to enhance its delivery operation, generate cost efficiencies and provide greater customer choice.

The benefit that most caught the judges’ eyes was the development of improved options for the end customer. Since Jersey Post introduced parcel automation, there has been significantly improved first time delivery rates as well as the launch of alternative delivery services. In addition, the improved efficiencies now experienced as a result of the technology ensure that Jersey Post can continue to offer a sustainable postal service without the need for government subsidy in the long-term.

David McGrath, Head of Marketing at Jersey Post stated, “The driving factor for the parcel automation project was to be able to improve the whole supply chain of parcel delivery, but most importantly for the end user and this has been duly recognised by these awards. Being selected as a finalist against major UK brands is the perfect reward for the hard work and commitment of all those involved with the project.”

The Supply Chain Excellence Awards, now in their 22nd year, have become the benchmark for supply chain best practice, attracting entries from not only the UK and Europe but all around the world. Jersey Post has been shortlisted against Heineken UK, Three and Co-op Insurance in the Customer Service and Support category, and against Superdry, Tata Steel FAMD, BT Supply Chain and Doddle in the Delivery Innovation category. Jersey Post’s entry in this category is a joint entry with technology partner Skillweb.

The shortlisted entrants are now invited to make a presentation to the judges and answer a series of relevant questions from the judging panel of leading supply chain professionals. In the final process the judges will be looking for the common characteristics of high performing supply chains, including: delivering competitive advantage; streamlined and integrated processes; clear understanding or core competencies; collaborative operating model; clear metrics quantifying results. The winners will be announced at gala dinner in London on Friday 6 November.
