PHILIPPE WAHL HAS BEEN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The President of the Republic of France has appointed Philippe Wahl as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of La Poste SA via a decree issued by the Council of Ministers. Philippe Wahl succeeds Jean-Paul Bailly, who had announced his decision not to fulfil his term of office in early July.

Philippe Wahl, 57, holds a Masters’ Degree in Economics, and is a graduate of the Institut d’études politiques (IEP Paris) and the Ecole nationale d’administration (ENA – Louise Michel Class 1982-84). Philippe Wahl began his career as an auditor and counsel at the French Council of State. He was appointed as a project manager working for the Chairman of the French Stock Exchange Commission in 1986, and then joined the office of Prime Minister Michel Rocard in 1989 as a specialist adviser responsible for business, financial and tax affairs.

Philippe Wahl acted as an adviser to the Chairman of Compagnie Bancaire in 1991, before becoming a member of the Management Committee in 1992, and then Deputy Chief Executive Officer in 1994. He became responsible for Paribas' specialist financial services and a member of the Executive Committee in 1997. Philippe Wahl was appointed Chief Executive of the Caisse Nationale des Caisses d’Épargne (CNCE) in 1999. In this role, he was also Chairman of Sopassure, Chairman of the Board of Ecureuil Assurances IARD, and a member of CDC Ixis and CNP’s Supervisory Boards.
He was appointed Chief Executive of the Havas Group in 2005, and became Vice-Chairman of the Bolloré Group in 2006. Philippe Wahl joined the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) as Chief Executive Officer, France in January 2007. He was appointed adviser to the RBS Global Banking and Markets Board in
London in March 2008. He became Chief Executive Officer for RBS France, Belgium and Luxembourg in December 2008.
Philippe Wahl has been chairman of the La Banque Postale Executive Board and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Le Groupe La Poste since January 2011.
