Lithuania Post Presents Survey Findings

The Postage Should Depend on Item Weight and Measurements, Survey Findings Say

72% of Lithuanian citizens say that the postage for correspondence items should be related not only with weight but measurements as well. This has been revealed by the survey conducted in April by the market research company SIC.

“The Communications Regulatory Authority has been submitted Lithuania Post’s proposal to group correspondence items taking into consideration not only weight but their measurements as well. Also, the proposal contains a suggestion to reconsider tariffs for international correspondence items taking into account destination countries. At present, the citizens pay an average price for delivery of international items: LTL 15 for items sent to EU member states, and LTL 40.95 to other countries,” Lithuania Post’s Directress of Postal Network Division Inga Dundulienė said.

When applying the average price, part of customers overpays for the service, and another part of customers underpays. For instance, Belarus is not an EU member country; therefore, the sender pays LTL 40.95 for a letter-post item weighing up to 2 kg. The same amount is payable for the item of the same weight sent to the USA.

According to Ms Dundulienė, the survey was carried out in order to find out whether the customers would agree to pay the real price, not the average one.

The survey conducted by the company SIC revealed that 52% of the people surveyed believed that the postage should be determined by the destination country. 36% of the respondents thought that the average price should be applied in case of EU countries, and another tariff should be applied when sending items to other countries than EU. The rest people surveyed did not have a clear opinion.

The survey results also show that relatively a small number of citizens, 13 per cent, send postal items abroad. Out of these, 65% usually send items of a form of an ordinary letter with a weight of 500g.

The Public Limited Company Lietuvos paštas runs the widest network of postal access points in Lithuania. Lithuania Post provides postal, logistic, and financial intermediation services.
