"Each year Lithuania Post handles more than 50 million of postal items. We are always making every endeavour to ensure safe mail delivery to the addressee, but unforeseen circumstances such as car accidents or fall of mail bags from the cargo processing line at the airport sometimes occur. When such an accident happens damage can be made to postal items or their contents; therefore, we always recommend our customers to insure the contents of items," Directress of Postal Network Division of Lithuania Post Inga Dundulienė said.
According to Ms Dundulienė, with item insurance the sender is entitled to receive compensation for damaged or lost items.
The compensation amount combines the postage and the insured value of the item’s contents.
To assess the attractiveness of the service, Lithuania Post has set a special price for the insurance service: all items, both domestic and international, can be insured for 5 litas or 1.45 if they are posted from November 1 of the current year until the 28th of February 2015. It should be noted that only registered items can be insured.
For the convenience of customers, only part of the item’s contents can be insured.
In case of lost or damaged articles contained in an insured item, the compensation would be calculated summing up the postage and the insured value of the lost or damaged article listed in the description of the articles sent. In such a case the compensation amount may not exceed the insured value set for the whole insured item.
