Jersey Post acquire Fraser Freight

Following a successful regulatory approval process, Jersey Post has today confirmed that it has purchased the premium European logistics company – Fraser Freight.

With huge global industry change, postal authorities worldwide are looking at opportunities to grow new revenue streams in order to support the decline in existing markets. Jersey is no exception to this and the acquisition of Fraser Freight represents an exciting opportunity for Jersey Post to expand its current business operation both within, as well as outside of the Channel Islands.

Tim Brown, Chief Executive at Jersey Post commented, “2016 is one of the most financially challenging years yet for Jersey Post, and we must find secure, profitable opportunities that can help us to build on our existing core skills and business strengths in order to address this situation. The purchase of Fraser Freight will help to extend our market reach, not only engaging with new clientele about our existing services but also offering new services to our existing customer base.”

In particular, the acquisition will serve to strengthen Jersey Post’s current range of European shipping lanes by providing access to new routes into multiple European countries. Jersey Post’s Ship2me customers will also stand to benefit from a quicker delivery service to the Channel Islands when the UK shipping service moves to the Fraser Freight warehouse in September. This move will facilitate quicker, easier deliveries into the warehouse from UK retailers, as well as the introduction of daily shipping services to the Channel Islands.

The benefits of the company purchase are not purely financial. Through the acquisition, Jersey Post will have access to Fraser Freight’s high level of industry knowledge and expertise, most notably, that of restricted good classification which is becoming increasingly important in the current climate of heightened security measures worldwide.

Andrew Elson, MD at Fraser Freight stated, “We are delighted with the progression of the company sale. There are strong synergies between our mutual desires for business growth, and I am excited by what this deal means to both Fraser Freight and Jersey Post. We are very much looking forward to working together on expanding and developing our organisations.”

Through this acquisition, Jersey Post has retained all existing staff based at Fraser Freight and there have been no compulsory redundancies either at Fraser Freight or, at Jersey Post, as a result.
