Omniva will establish the Baltics’ most advanced logistics centre near Tallinn

The national postal and logistics company will establish the most contemporary logistics centre in the Baltic countries near Jüri.

The contract of purchase and sale for the plot near the Tallinn roundabout was entered into at the beginning of October; relocation to the new building is planned for 2018.

According to Ansi Arumeel, member of the management board at Omniva, their goal is to build the best and most contemporary logistics centre in the Baltic countries. This centre will put a smile on the face of each employee, as well as the clients who will be receiving better and faster service. “The new logistics centre will be excellent in every aspect – in terms of workstations, technology, work processes, energy savings, and everything else,” explained Arumeel.

“The development of the logistics field has been turbulent in recent years. In order to remain competitive on the market, we also need to develop both our work processes and infrastructure,” said Arumeel. According to him, it was only a matter of time as to when the premises at Pallasti Street would become a hindrance to the company’s development.
According to Arumeel, they considered over 30 plots in and near Tallinn when searching for a plot for the logistics centre. “For any property, the most significant aspect is its location. In the case of the Pähklimäe tee plot, the decisive criteria included good accessibility for people and vehicles, parking, proximity of other important nodes of infrastructure (airport, highways, etc.), distance from the Tallinn city centre, as well as possibilities for extensions,” said Arumeel. “Naturally, price was also a factor,” he added.

The new logistics centre will employ at least 300 people and receive a new parcel sorting line, for which the procurement is under way. According to Arumeel, the current logistics centre at Pallasti Street will be put up for sale with the stipulation that the company can operate in the building until the new building is completed in 2018.
The contract of purchase and sale for the plot on Pähklimäe tee in Lehmja village was entered into on 4 October, and a construction and design procurement will be carried out soon to begin the design and construction process of the new building. If everything goes as planned, the operation of the logistics centre will be relocated in the autumn of 2018.
