Omniva sets an example for postal development in the Baltics

Omniva achieved the honourable 18th place in the Index for Postal Development of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which includes 170 countries.

Estonia's postal service provider was third among Eastern European and CIS countries following Poland (7th) and Slovenia (15th). The Swiss postal services won first place.

The study relies on the greatest data integration ever conducted to measure the development of postal services on a global scale. The research included UPU’s big data – details of more than 3 billion shipments around the world –, official UPU statistics and key surveys. According to this data, countries were ranked based on four main variables – reliability, reach, relevance, and resilience.

According to Joona Saluveer, Chairman of the Management Board of Omniva, a lot of hard work has been done in the name of achieving this result, but there is still room for development. “Our international services are the fastest growing sector for a third year in a row. Our international grasp is definitely one of our strengths that helped as climb the rankings,” Saluveer said.

Omniva achieved the 18th place among the postal services of 170 countries with 70.65 points. Among Nordic countries, Estonia came second after Finland, and among Eastern European and CIS countries, third after Poland and Slovenia. We are far ahead of our close neighbours Latvia (41st place), Lithuania (28th place), and Russia (38th place).

The first three places went to Switzerland, France, and Japan. According to UPU, these countries finished in the top three because all three offer very high-quality services and have an excellent global reach. All three postal companies are also resilient to changes and to the changing environment, and the demand for the various services provided by them is high.

Established in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), with its headquarters in the Swiss capital Berne, is the second oldest international organization worldwide. With its 192 member countries, the UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It  helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services.
