PostEurop, as the Association representing over 50 European Postal Operators across the wider continent are pleased to support the 2024 Green Postal Day which aligns with the Association’s sustainability goals.

Partnership and cooperation

This year sees 24 postal operators worldwide participating in the 6th edition of Green Postal Day, including European postal operators. Each postal operator will show their achievements in the sustainability area.

Since 2008, postal operators participating in the now Sustainability Measurement and Management System (SMMS) (1) have reduced their overall annual CO2 emissions by almost 40% and are committed to reach a further 50% reduction by 2030, compared to their 2019 carbon emissions.

This year’s campaign focusses on partnership and collaboration between postal operators calling for cooperation and partnership with all players, and some are already involved in different kind of partnerships with stakeholders. In essence, while individual companies play a crucial role in sustainability, an industry-wide approach can further amplify efforts, drive systemic change, and foster a more cohesive and effective response to global sustainability challenges.

PostEurop’s commitment

PostEurop and its members place sustainability at the core of our activities and are fully aligned with the EU’s objectives of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 (2).

As key players in the transport and logistics sector, European postal operators have begun to further decarbonise their operations to keep in pace with the EU’s climate ambition in two key action fields: currently we have one of the largest low-emission fleets in the industry, including over 109,000 electric vehicles and 14,000 vehicles powered by alternative fuels. 77% of our electricity use comes from renewable sources and we have put in place various circular economy and waste reduction initiatives.

“PostEurop is pleased to once again support the Green Postal Day as it is in line with our core objectives and long-term aim. Within our efforts to further strengthen our role in guiding and addressing the evolving ESG landscape at European and international levels for our members, PostEurop has established the ESG transversal and steering committee earlier this year to further enhance collaboration, increase knowledge and take concrete actions when necessary” said Elena Fernandez, Chairwoman of the PostEurop Board of Directors.
