After briefly parting ways in 2021, leading beauty and hair retailer Lyko recommitted to PostNord, driven by PostNord’s determination to provide sustainable logistics services. The temporary split illustrated the uncompromising demand for environmentally adapted delivery in today’s market.

PostNord and Lyko had previously enjoyed a successful relationship that began just a few years after Lyko was established in 2003. , explains Daniel Thyberg, external logistics lead at Lyko. “But we have always maintained cooperation with PostNord across three different markets, including e-commerce and store deliveries in Sweden.”

The partnership hit a crucial juncture in late 2021, when Lyko set out a clear mandate for all its delivery providers: to ensure fossil-free deliveries across Sweden, from warehouse to customer. While work had commenced on initiatives to meet PostNord’s overarching climate goal of becoming fossil-free by 2030, the necessary data requested by Lyko was not yet available. Consequently, the long-standing agreement was paused.

Renewing faith

Selecting a logistics partner is a crucial decision for Lyko, which Daniel describes as being influenced by core values and the need to balance sustainability with commercial viability. “We want to be able to have discussions with regards to how much of the resources we allocate towards different aspects of sustainability and so on. We like to have agreements with partners where we can feel a real partnership and not just a transaction.”

PostNord’s response to the turn of events in 2021 was swift and decisive, fast-tracking work on the green corridors concept — an expansive project aimed at achieving 100 percent fossil-free transportation between major cities, from warehouse to end consumer.

These efforts didn’t go unnoticed, according to Daniel: “PostNord brought it up to the highest degrees of management within the company and accelerated the work they had already started, readjusted their traffic, and focused on specific areas for fossil-free deliveries.”

As a result, Lyko was provided with a list of postcodes where fossil-free delivery was possible, restoring confidence in PostNord’s commitment to environmental operations. At that time, this ensured that just under 50 percent of Swedish households could receive their orders with fossil-free delivery. With the continued expansion of the green corridors, Lyko can now offer all delivery options as fossil-free, message clearly communicated to customers at checkout.

Growing together

The responsiveness to Lyko’s requirements demonstrated the willingness to evolve and affirmed that PostNord is the company’s ideal logistics partner. While the fact that PostNord offers Nordic Swan ecolabelled deliveries, it further solidified the reputation as a leader in sustainable logistics.

Now stronger than ever, the partnership with Lyko reflects a shared commitment to a greener future. Above all, it serves as an example of the unwavering commitment to delivering both progressive and environmentally responsible logistics solutions.

“PostNord has become more innovative and business-driven,” says Daniel. “They are trying to understand our needs better and they made adjustments in order to meet them. That was really impressive to see from such a large corporation.”
