The Guille-Allès Library’s home delivery service is set to continue, thanks to an innovative new partnership with Guernsey Post.

Originally established through grant funding in 2018, over the years the service has become a lifeline for a significant number of older Islanders who are unable to visit the Library in person. However, with the grant funding no longer available, the future of the service had been uncertain – until Guernsey Post stepped in to help.

Their support means that books, audiobooks and other library materials can continue to be delivered free of charge to the homes of all 40 existing service users. Library staff will coordinate book selections, with Guernsey Post handling deliveries and returns as part of their regular postal service.

Adam Bayfield, the Library’s Head of Marketing & Customer Services, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Guernsey Post for enabling our Home Delivery Service to continue. The service makes a huge difference to the people who use it, ensuring they can continue to access the Library and enjoy all the many benefits of reading. The Library is for everyone, and we’re committed to making sure that the books in our collection are accessible to all. This partnership means our service users can carry on receiving their book deliveries without interruption, and we’d like to thank Guernsey Post for their generosity and support. It’s a wonderful example of what can be achieved when community organisations come together.

“We’ll be contacting all of our service users directly to explain more detail and set up their first delivery under the new system. In the meantime, I would encourage Islanders to get in touch if they have any questions or they’d like to find out more.”

The Library is already home to a Guernsey Post EBOX parcel collection point, which simplifies the process of coordinating deliveries for thve postal workers.

Dawn Gallienne, Head of Corporate Engagement at Guernsey Post, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support The Guille-Allès Library with this vital service. This aligns with our commitment to supporting the community and ensuring essential services are accessible to everyone. Our posties are often a friendly face in the community, and we’re proud to play a part in making a positive difference.”
