PostEurop Members (European DOs of the UPU) have just approved a common position as a transparent and constructive input to the ongoing preparation of the UPU’s 2026-2029 Strategy to be endorsed at the 28th UPU Congress in Dubai, UAE, in Sept 2025.

PostEurop Members, believe that the following key strategic points will help find a promising future:

🚨 Addressing the Global Postal Network Challenges: Strategic Imperatives

The UPU envisaged Strategy for the coming years (2026-2029) should focus more on the global postal network crisis, to keep the relevance of both the UPU and Designated Operators (DOs). The rise of private logistics companies highlights the need for traditional postal services to address this trend.

Realistic, Business-Focused Global Strategy, adapted to DOs:

  • Address the volume shift from DOs to private actors with competitive, innovative business models – ensure DOs stay ahead of the technological advancements.
  • Tailor strategies to meet the diverse needs of DOs, to enhance customer service and cooperation, and to promote a balanced co-operation with WPSP stakeholders for funding, innovation and modernization.

Commitment to Sustainable Practices:

  • Prioritize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) like climate change, gender equality, and social inclusion.
  • Transition to sustainable practices to maintain UPU’s relevance and access international green funds.

Revamping Vision, Mission, and Goals:

  • Update the two-decade-old mission to reflect current and future needs, including financial, digital, and social inclusion, considered today as part of the DO’s core business.
  • Clearly delineate purpose and scope, providing strategic direction with a concise executive summary.

Addressing these areas will ensure the UPU and DOs remain relevant and capable of meeting modern postal challenges. Let’s work together to build a future-proof postal network for our global community.
